How To Deal With Large Deliveries To An Apartment Building.
Most of the time, when you are moving in or having a piece of furniture delivered to an apartment building, you have some things to keep in mind.
1) There are limited times of the day or even the week when you can move in. You may be limited to moving in only on certain days
2)When getting a furniture delivery, you may need to book the elevator in your building in advance. You want to be prepared.
3) Many apartment building requires a COI or Certificate of Insurance from the company delivering the goods. You need to supply the company who is providing the goods with proper contact information of your building. The day before the delivery, the company will contact your apt building with the information the building needs to know the company that is delivering is insured for damages to the building.
4) Every building has its own culture about these things. They may say something in your lease and work a different way depending on the doormen. Many door attendants allow deliveries if you are not bugging anyone.
5) If you are renovating an apartment with many deliveries, be sure to make sure you know the building’s rules and culture. Research who your neighbors are and when they are home to get ahead of any ill will. If your new next-door neighbor has a baby, cut them some slack if you can, or at least try to get ahead of the situation. You also need to be sure everyone is insured and if you do, bring in a guy to hang a couple of pictures – say he is a friend, or hire someone who works in the building.
6) Many companies are helping their clients make sure the furniture you order will fit in your elevator, halls, or even your front door best to use this service if you are unsure or call a company specializing in such things. It takes a lot of work to undo pissing off the doormen!
7) Often, in NYC, a tip is given if the delivery people help you move any existing furniture to make way for new items.
